PAGE FOOTNOTES: Modern Gunships have a ballast, if you want to call it that, of lifting Chatoyant Blue, so they can travel over land, it makes them much more effective. For some ships it is a fairly recent refit of an old ship.
However, the earliest Gunship models did not have Chatoyant Blue, because it was too expensive to use the Concreton for something as large as a Gunship. This is because it is difficult to collect Chatoyant Blue (reference the special collectors in all scenes where Concreton generation slabs are shown).
In modern Pastel, there are so many Chatoyance farms around that the price of Blue is reasonable for Gunships and other large craft as well. But the docks on Senryoku continent were carved out before the modern Gunships, which is why they were built right through the P-Layer, to provide a zero-P cradle for the ships of the time.
The modern Gunships still make use of these facilities, and are even built to make maximum use of them.
Even so, it is a nerve-wracking thing to pilot such a huge craft so close to the ground in constant wind. But it is done for situations where a rapid deployment is required.
