Pastellian colonial arks are fairly massive ships which contain all that is needed to conquer an untouched continent. Besides settlers and food and tools, there are also animals, seeds, prefabricated housing and other structures, and various transport and soil-moving vehicles. The governor has a great deal of say in just what is taken, and also even how it is styled.
The entirety of the ark itself is so designed that the panels and struts that make it up can easily be disassembled and used for various construction projects as well. The first order of business for a landed colony ship is to develop a self-sustaining agriculture, supported by water derived from tall wind-catcher towers. Once food and water are secured, success is almost guaranteed, as native continents have no dangerous wildlife, or other innate threats.
