If It Bleeds, It Leads |

FOOTNOTES:
The
phrase "If It Bleeds, It Leads" is a common one for the
United States news industry. Used in such diverse news media as
newspapers, radio, and television news, it has long ago ceased being
a joke, now it is a standard operating principle. Disasters make
careers, and for anyone in the news industry, there is nothing
better, more fine, or more desirable than the great misfortune of
others, be it war, famine, flood, or catastrophe. This is not to say
that newspeople are heartless, shallow, career-focused scum - there
are several people in the news industry who reflect upon, and are
deeply scarred by the things they are required to report upon.
Fortunately for these souls, exist the bars and liquor establishments
of the nation.
